Education and Training

I graduated in 1985 with a B.A. from Spring Hill College (Mobile AL), and an M.Ed. in Community Counseling from the University of Tennessee in Chattanooga in 2008.

As a therapist, I have obtained training in many trauma based interventions. including EMDR (through an EMDRIA approved program), IFS, TF-CBT, somatic experiencing, grief, and resilience. I hold Certification as a Clinical Trauma Professional through IATP

Additionally, I am a trained facilitator for NAMI community support groups. In 2013, I completed training as a Peer Support Specialist and as a Respect Institute speaker through the Georgia Mental Health Consumer Network.

Professional Experience

Many years before entering the counseling profession, I spent a year in volunteer service with the Jesuit Volunteer Corps. Following that, I taught middle and high school for several years in Florida.

Fast forward to the early 2000’s when I entered this field. I have been a therapist since 2008, earning full licensure in December, 2011.

As a skilled therapist with 14 years years of experience in both public mental health and private practice settings, I specialize in treating trauma, anxiety, depression and issues related to life transitions. Other roles I have held include Peer Support Program Manager, and NAMI Volunteer as a group facilitator and a presenter for NAMI/PSC Trainings on PTSD and Suicide.

When I’m Not Working

“You can’t pour from an empty cup”. - Norm Kelly

The importance of self- care is paramount in today’s fast changing world. Therefore, I am committed to being mindful of personal/work life balance in order to provide you with quality care.

My husband of 31 years and I have three adult children. As empty nesters, we enjoy outdoor activities, such as working in the garden, camping and golfing.

To rest and recharge, I turn to time with family and friends, playing cards/games, reading a wide selection of genres, walking, swimming laps, and playing the piano (…and teaching myself to play the guitar and violin).
